Mark wins PDP ticket to Senate

MAKURDI —  Senate President, David Mark, Saturday in Otukpo, defeated Chief Mike Onoja at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primaries to emerge the flag bearer of the party in the Benue South Senatorial district.
Mark pulled a total of 384 votes out of 389 to win nomination for the fifth time to represent his District.
His victory came following the decision of his opponent to step down at the venue of the senatorial primaries.
Onoja who addressed delegates soon before the commencement of votes said his decision to backdown from the race was premised on the cordial relationship he had enjoyed with Mark over the years, adding that both of them shared the same ideology of development of Idoma land.
He said, “I was not induced in any way to step down for the Senate President whom I hold in very high esteem as the number three citizen of this country.
However, In spite of his decision to backdown, the party insisted that delegates voted in fulfillment of the party’s constitution after which Mark was announced as duly elected candidate of the PDP by the returning officer, Mr.Tor Akume.
