This is the garage of the Second Nigerian Senate President Prince Nweke Nwafor from 1960 to 1966.

This is the garage of the Second Nigerian Senate President Prince Nweke Nwafor from 1960 to 1966. I vividly Recall the story of a man who became
popular for engaging in money rituals just to buy the
80's edition of the Honda Prelude. You wouldn't buy
that car for 50k today. Some other guy brutally
murdered his brother ( whom their father gave cash
2 travel 4 the purpose of re- stocking their
warehouse), just cos he wanted to acquire the rave
of the moment - Pathfinder Jeep. That same vehicle
is now better described as a coffin. I Remember as
a kid, my whole street gathered to watch a truck
deliver a very large satellite dish to my neighbour's
house. Today a dish one tenth that size delivers 5
times the value and is in almost every student's
room. What about the Volkswagen Santana,
Mercedes Benz V boot, 505Evolution, Toyota
Crown, all overtaken by latest models of Camry,
Honda, Bugatti, Bentley, X6, Acura and Infinity....
Vanity! Some ladies left their true loves cos some
rich guy then persuaded them with a Benz 190,
which turned out to be the only car they ever owned
till date. They found out too late that true love is
invaluable. A friend declared drinks because he
launched the Nokia Communicator for over hundred
grand in 2002. Today that phone would embarrass
the owner and is a joke compared to the low cost
and everyday phones. What about the MTN SIM
card that many people went extra miles before they
bought for over 30k, today you will not buy it at
N100 because all networks are begging people to
even take it for free. People are still making the
most horrific sacrifices over 'vanity' and make
enemies over worthless material things. What can I
say? Look back at that one thing you want to kill or
die for today and see what becomes of it tomorrow.
There is absolutely nothing you can't achieve. All
you need is a little time and PATIENCE and you
would thank God without regrets. There is actually
nothing in this world that is worth dieing for,
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Meditate on this…

Gov Ganduje declares war on Kwankwaso

The cold war between Kano State  governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has  degenerated to full blown hostility  following  the threat by the former to exposed the latter’s stewardship in office.
Kwankwaso
Kwankwaso
Ganduje, who went for broke when he hosted the leadership of Kano  students  abroad under the aegis of General Association of Northern Nigeria Students, based in Egypt, alleged the distortion   of the state scholarship programme.
The long-time Kwankwaso’s political soul mate declared: “For one year, Kwankwaso did not pay a single kobo as tuition fee for our students studying abroad.
“Right now, Kano State government owes those students N3 billion, and painfully, our revenue is dwindling and we would be cautious in handling the situation”.
The new Kano strongman revealed that the delay in the payment of the tuitions fee was caused by the Kwankwaso administration, even  as he stressed: “For whatever reasons, the Kwankwaso  administration distorted the scholarship programme”.
The enraged governor told the leadership of the students: “I’ve decided to let the cat out of the bag so that, as educated people, you would understand where your problems lies”.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that last Wednesday weekly state executive meeting, presided over by Ganduja, had  condemned the failure of the Kwankwaso  administration to fulfill financial obligation to the programme despite  the allegation that huge amounts of money in foreign currency were allocated to it by the former regime.

What makes women age faster?

Sometime ago, I listened to Ms Grace Zemaye Egbagbe, lawyer and television personality, on MetrofileChannels Television. Her hostess asked her the secret of her youthful looks. She responded that two reasons make women age faster: husbands and children. In other words, she looks young partly because she does not have a husband (Although she said she still nurses the hope of getting married someday if the right man comes along) and has only two children to contend with.
As a husband and father, it got me thinking. How do husbands and children contribute to fast tracking the ageing of women? Unfortunately Egbagbe did not elaborate, so let us take it from there. I do not believe married women age faster than single women. But I believe that husbands can make wives age faster and vice versa. However, husbands or children do not necessarily make women age faster. There are many other factors at play: peace, happiness, financial state and state of mind, among others.
When Jesus visited Mary and Martha (Luke 40: 41 – 42); Martha complained to Jesus that Mary had left all the chores for her. Jesus told Martha that she worried about too many things that only one thing mattered. In marriage, that one thing is peace of mind.  If you have peace of mind, you have it all; without peace of mind, you can age geometrically.
women-financeAnd just as Jesus observed, some people worry about too many things. Everything is an issue, everything is a big deal. Some cry wolf where none exists. Some belong to the group of people one of my priests, Fr. Tobias Nwafor, described as creators of worries, those who worry because there is nothing to worry about. Take your marriage very serious to make it work, however, do not take everything that happens in your marriage too serious. If you do, you will not only age faster, you might suffer a stroke or die of a heart attack.
“Battles” are inevitable in marriage, but you must choose your “battles” carefully. Leave trivial and petty issues and stick to fundamentals. While growing up, there was this snake-like fish—I do not know the English name; I have not seen it in ages—called Igbene. It was very cheap and of low nutritional value. We have a saying that you do not burn your fingers because of Igbene, meaning, do not roast Igbene; it is not worth burning your fingers for. Ignore the Igbenes of your marriage.
Also remember the statement of Stephen Covey: it is not what happens to you or people’s actions that matter, but your reaction. You might not have control over your spouse’s actions, but you certainly do over yours. Take charge of that which you have control over.
In addition, what is the state of the marriage? If the marriage is a happy one, then there is no reason for the woman to age geometrically. But the issue is who is supposed to make your marriage a happy one, your spouse? No, a happy marriage is a product of conscious effort by both spouses. The quantum of contribution may differ, but both parties must put in something to make it happy. Where the husband contributes nothing, Egbagbe’s assertion may be correct, but where the wife is not satisfied with the quantum of the husband’s contribution, the problem is partly her mental creation. This is especially so if she can fill the gaps but refuses to because “it is his responsibility.” When you prefer to worry rather than provide the solution that is within your means, the outcome is geometric ageing.
Poor finances can stress women enormously. No woman wants to be threatened by a landlord over rents; no woman wants her children kicked out of school over school fees; no woman enjoys seeing her children in tattered clothes or hungry; but worries have not solved any financial problems. Constructive thinking and planning do. When spouses pray, plan and take action, they make progress, no matter how little.
On children, every parent should attempt to shape the first 10 years of the child’s life. That is when they are most pliable and dependent on the parent. Thereafter, the paradigm begins to shift; peer and other external influences gain more grounds in his/her life. Children will definitely do dumb things at some stage, they will make mistakes, many will be rebellious, but hopefully the foundation you laid in the first 10 years and your subsequent efforts will prevail at the end. But if the situation gets beyond your control, get help, surrender it to God. That was what St. Monica, mother of the legendary St. Augustine, did to turn the tide.
When some parents worry over their children, it is sometimes selfish worries. Some worry because the children are not meeting up with their expectations of running their financial empires when they are gone. Shouldn’t you be more concerned, not worried, about the kind of eternity that awaits you? My own take is, do your best while you are around. Once you are dead, you are gone, simple.
Some other parents worry because the children are the only retirement plan they have. When the children fall short of their expectations, they worry about the uncertain old age that awaits them, not necessarily about the children. This is why we are all encouraged to make our retirement plans during our active years
Finally, God, the author of life and creator of marriage and family should get His preeminent position. God makes the impossible possible, opens ways where there is none (Exodus 14:21). He has invited all who are weary and overburdened to come to him for rest (Matthew 11: 28). Spouses should accept this simple invitation and stop aging unnecessarily. Naaman, the leprous Syrian general did and got a new-born-baby’s skin (2 Kings 5:14). You too can avoid geometric-aging. Life is short and uncertain, get the best out of it while you have it.

Drama At NASS As Dino Melaye Commits A Serious Blunder While Addressing Saraki

There was a mild drama yesterday at the Senate when Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) addressed the Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki as Speaker.
2

Melaye, who was one of the strong loyalists of the Senate President had stood up to raise a point of order 41(b) over the alleged illegal disengagement of workers of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) when he addressed Saraki as Speaker. Instead of saying, “The Senate President sir”, Melaye said, “Mr. Speaker sir”
.
The goof by Melaye, who was once at the House of Representatives, shocked his colleagues.
For almost two minutes, laughter of the Senators rented the air. Immediately after the laughter, Melaye sought to tender a petition written by the disengaged workers.
The Senate President granted his plea and he tendered the petition.
The petition is seeking the Senate to compel the FIRS to re-engage the disengaged staff

Saraki’s wife and the conspiracy theory

MRS Toyin Saraki, wife of  the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, was, recently, the guest of the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over an alleged case of corruption.
efcc logoThe visit was in connection with her  alleged involvement in a multi-million Naira misappropriation of bank loan and laundering of funds from the Kwara State government while her husband served as the governor of the state.
Meanwhile, the circumstances of the investigation show that the motive is to put a tar on the Senate President after he won the battle for the top office of the National Assembly, to the consternation and embarrassment of those opposed to his bid, especially some leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Many Nigerians are questioning the timing of the investigation.
But it would appear Mrs Saraki has nothing to hide about the issues raised by the EFCC interrogators which bordered on the payments from the copyright from the publication of the Personal Health Record, which she co-authored with a publisher (copy from her WBFA – Well-Being Foundation Africa).
Additionally, it was discovered that the invitation letter from the EFCC was not signed by the agency’s Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde.
The letter was signed by one Mr Adegbite, who, interestingly, hails from the South-West.
In essence, Lamorde was  not in the picture of the EFCC investigation of the Senate President.
Curiousity, while the media was awash with stories that the petition was authored by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State, the party dismissed the claim.
Who then wrote the petition?
President Muhammadu Buhari has resolved to go after Nigerians who looted the nation’s treasury following which the anti-corruption war must be fought with vigor.
But institutions of state, like the EFCC, one of the agencies with the mandate to stem corruption, should not become a tool to witch hunt opponents.
In the Toyin Saraki case, it is easy to deduce that some chieftains of the APC are neck deep in the gang-up.
We are all living witnesses to the crisis that erupted during the election of principal officers of the National Assembly which saw Bukola Saraki beating, in the race for the Senate President, the candidate package by some APC leaders as the party’s nominee, and for which the leaders have vowed to take their pound of flesh from the Senate President.
Infact, anaysts are reading meaning into the EFCC/Toyin Saraki saga vis-a-vis the National Assembly election crisis and are stretching the issue as far back as the rivalry between Otunba Ojora, Mrs. Saraki’s father, and the Oba Rilwanu Akiolu of Lagos, an ally of Bola Tinubu, one of the APC leaders opposed to Bukola Saraki’s Senate Presidency.
The question: Why drag a woman into issues she knows nothing about?
In the wake of the EFCC/Toyin Saraki saga, many Nigerians agree that it would do the anti-graft agency so much good to look into corruption allegations levelled against high profile Nigerians, especially Tinubu, in the run up to the 2015 general elections.

Special reports from RCCG 63rd convention: Adeboye goes violent against powers of darkness

AS the 63rd annual convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, reached crescendo on Thursday night, church members as well as first time worshippers at the spiritual fiesta were stunned to watch Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, regarded by millions of admirers as one of the meekest men around, turned combative.
Even long time members of the church were also astonished by the growing number of babies delivered at the church’s major programmes with not a few participants wondering why heavily pregnant women often travel, sometimes, long distances to the Redemption Camp to have their babies.
The large crowd of worshippers that included the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Benue State Governor, Deacon Sam Ortom and his wife, the Speaker of Ekiti House of Assembly, Pastor Kola Oluwawole and a motley of traditional rulers were shocked as the church General Overseer led them to pray some very dangerous prayers, calling down Holy Ghost fire on all unrepentant evil doers like biblical Elijah did.
It was the 4th day of the ongoing annual convention and the programme was the deliverance service which began with a warning to his listeners not to be afraid, that “today, we are going to fight and recover all that the enemy had taken from us. All of you who had been leaving on bondage shall be set free today!
“Every door that has been shot against your success shall be forced open tonight because our God can destroy any yoke. At His names all knees including those of all the witches and all the occultic agents who have been hibernating in our homes must bow,” he said, adding “don’t be afraid, we are going to pray together tonight.”
Shortly after a brief sermon, titled “Free Indeed”, the soft-spoken general overseer explained that one cannot be free from an enemy except such enemy becomes one’s friend or died. He then initiated an extremely violent deliverance prayer session which drove the large crowd hysterical, resulting in several undescribable demonic manifestations. Repeatedly, he warned the congregation against any form of fear, assuring them that the blood of Jesus would protect them, “as I lead you to war against these evil forces tonight”.
It was a night of instant deliverance from the powers of darkness with diverse of miracles at the Deliverance Hour of the 63rd annual convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Majority of participants who needed divine touch of the all sufficient God were led in an uncommon prayer warfare.
Adeboye had earlier admonished the ushers to be on high alert and carry all persons under the influence of unction to the front of the altar to prevent them from injuring themselves or harming other innocent worshippers. And it took the ushers several moments to salvage the situation and restore order to a chaotic environment characterized by men, women, boys and girls violently rolling, rocking and shaking off numerous ushers trying to calm them.
Before his sermon, Pastor Adeboye announced that a total of 66 babies including 31 boys and 35 girls, had been delivered within a few days of the ministers’ conference culminating into four days of the convention. According to the medical doctor who oversees the affairs at the Redeemer’s Maternity, Pastor Femi Adeyemi, most of the pregnant women give birth with minimum or no assistance from the over 44 doctors, 101 nurses, nine pharmacists, four laboratory scientists and two social workers as at the time of this report.

APC Reveals Why Buhari Will Not Probe Jonathan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to a statement credited to the out-going President Goodluck Jonathan, in which he alleged that the President-elect, Muhammudu Buhari will probe him and his minsters.
Jonathan and Buhari
The response was contained in a statement issued on Sunday, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
The APC revealed that Buhari will not probe Jonathan because he will not be“bogged down by endless probes.”
The party also claimed that Jonathan was having guilty conscience or was making such statements in order to be pitied when he leaves office.
”However, the hands of the incoming government will not be tied by those who have chosen to play the victim and exhibit a persecution mentality. Whoever has any reason to be afraid must lay bare such reason before Nigerians,”  APC said.
The party claimed that the change that Nigerians have voted for will only make the guilty scared of their illicit actions when in public offices.
”The last time we checked, this does not fit the definition of persecution,” APC said.
The party expressed concern that Jonathan chose to express his fears in public despite all the private meeting he has been having with Buhari after the 2015 elections.
”Since the presidential election was won and lost, the President and the President-elect have met privately a number of times. Why didn’t President Jonathan express his apprehensions during these meetings?
”Even if the two have not met, the President could have reached out to the President-elect over any fears that he may be nursing, instead of engaging in an action that seems like he was being preemptive and seeking to curry public sympathy,”  the party said.
APC, who further assured that Buhari will be preoccupied with the welfare and security of the Nigerian people, solicited support for the incoming administration as Nigeria faces a new future.
In a related development, President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed fear and uncertainty as to what becomes of his marriage to Dame Patience due to his acceptance of defeat at the just concluded presidential poll.
