APC senatorial primaries fallout: Edo SSG resigns

BENIN—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has accepted the resignation of Professor Julius Ihonvbere from his cabinet as Secretary to the State Government.
In a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Peter Okhiria, the governor thanked Ihonvbere for his service to the government and the state and “wished him well” in his future endeavours.
When Vanguard contacted Ihonvbere, he said he remains a strong member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, despite the outcome of the primaries “but I have decided to go and take care of my business, which has been suffering since I took this responsibility to serve my dear state in the capacity of the SSG.”
Vanguard learned that Ihonvbere’s resignation may not be unconnected to the Monday senatorial primaries of the APC, which he lost to Oshiomhole’s kinsman, Chief Francis Alimekhena. It was learned that Ihonvbere was angry that he was coasting to victory before delegates allegedly decided to vote in favour of Alimekhena allegedly on the orders of the governor.
However, the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr Godwin Erhahon, denied the allegation that the governor interfered in the senatorial primaries of Edo North.
